Campaign against Dengue
User Rating: / 4
PoorBest
Dengue is a dreaded disease that could take one’s life if not diagnosed promptly.Aedes aegypti or commonly known as the dengue mosquito laid its egg above water level and never on a dry surface which remains viable for 2-4 months. It can mature into a mosquito in 10-12 days and only female mosquito can start biting. Known as ‘day biters’ with 2 peaks : 1-2 hours after sunrise and 1-2 hours before sunset,it prefers dark corners, dark objects and dark background container with CLEAN,STAGNANT,NON-POLLUTED WATER. It is also most abundant during rainy months and can live up to 20 -30days! This mosquito is indeed deadly.
Because of these facts, Rural Health Unit  team together with the Municipal, Barangay, Provincial Health Office and the Department of Health Staff made a strategic system to prevent loss of life with this illness. June to October were busy months as Information dissemination was conducted in each barangay involving Barangay Officers, Day Care and Health Workers, School Officers and Teachers, parents and students among others. Health Education on source reduction such as disposal of useless containers, cleaning of useful containers, clean clogged gutters, bore holes on used tires, insecticides on breeding sites, mosquito proof water containers, filling up of holes ( trees, hollow blocks, bamboo stumps) with soil or cement were discussed.
In Bgy.Bonifacio were an outbreak existed, house to house cleaning and fogging were done as well as very intensive health education and promotion with community participation and mobilization.Control and fogging of breeding places of mosquitoes in other barangays were managed as well.
Early case detection and management were augmented via case identification and monitoring of suspected cases through regular check up since NOT all cases need to be hospitalized. Home treatment was  initiated and proper referrals as needed to secondary and tertiary hospitals were also implemented.
As a result of these integrated effort, Dengue is now controlled and there is less morbidity and no mortality among  cases seen by RHU team.

Devotees hold fluvial procession for 'Inang'
User Rating: / 2
PoorBest
“Inang” is how devotees call Nuestra Señora Virgen del Rosario, whose image, mounted on a raft, navigated a 3-kilometer stretch of the Pampanga River from Barangay (village) Magpapalayoc to Barangay San Anton here in an act of supplication and thanksgiving.
The river became unusually swollen in the aftermath of Typhoon “Quiel,” triggering floods as high as 16 feet in villages abutting the bank.
“It was a petition to Inang to prevent a repeat of that huge flood,” Mario dela Cruz, a barangay council member of Magpapalayoc, said in Filipino. He had helped build the bamboo raft used in the procession.
It is this stretch of the river where rainwater from other river tributaries in northern Nueva Ecija drains before flowing into Pampanga and Bulacan. “About 15 houses were swept away by floodwaters but we are thankful that nobody died in our village,” Dela Cruz said.
The image was carried by men on barefoot from the church in Barangay Adorable early Saturday afternoon and taken to a spot 2 km from where the fluvial procession started. The image was returned by the same men to the church.
At dawn, women, also on barefoot, carried the image in a procession in the village proper of Adorable. Bishop Sofronio Bancud celebrated Mass.
Fr. Armando Tipones said he broached the idea of holding the procession to start a tradition in the seven villages composing his new parish of Saint John Marie Vianney.
“The rightful way to commemorate the feast of the Virgin of the Holy Rosary is by way of a fluvial procession,” Tipones said.
A nine-day novena in honor of the patroness was held before the procession. Fifteen bancas carrying the devotees accompanied the image.
Mayor Froilan Nagaño assigned tourism officer Armand Bernardo to coordinate and prepare the event.
“We hope we can build a pagoda for next year’s procession. We will invite devotees from other towns to participate every time we hold it,” he said.
